Melrose started this BT Premiership match with a bang, Geoff Caldwell crossing in the corner for a good try in 4 minutes, but Stirling County were not lying down and Wayne Barr scored a try in the Policeman's corner, converted by Ian Noble, three minutes later. At 10 minutes, following a quickly taken penalty, Euan Thomson scored Melrose's second try under the posts, Scott Ruthven converting. Noble then kicked two penalties for Stirling County, at 20 & 24 minutes, to give them a two point lead. S.Ruthven then kicked a penalty just on half time to return the lead to Melrose.

Twelve minutes into the second half Noble dropped a goal to give the lead back to Stirling, and three minutes later Melrose broke out of defense for Bruce Ruthven to score an excellent long range try converted by his brother Scott. S.Ruthven, at 63 minutes, and Noble, at 67 minutes, kicked penalties to end the scoring.
