Both sides in this BT Scotland Premiership match spent the first quarter of an hour sparring with each other before Gregor Lawson pounced on a cruelly bouncing ball to score a try converted by Jonathon Sim. Five minutes later Sim kicked a penalty to increase the Heriot's lead. Shortly after, Calum Macrae kicked a penalty to put Melrose on the scoreboard. Sim kicked another penalty at 36 minutes before, at 40 minutes, following an exquisite breakout Geoff Caldwell raced in for a try converted by Macrae.

The second half was "give and take" for 20 minutes before the finest try of the season was scored by Jamie Blackwood to give Melrose the lead at last. 16 minutes later Scott Ruthven dropped a goal and four minutes before "no-side" Macrae increased the Melrose lead by kicking a penalty.
