Melrose Ladies 77 Aberdeen Quines 5

South League champions Melrose Ladies’ are back in the top eight Premier League after putting North League champions, Aberdeen, to the sword in this clash of previously unbeaten league winners. Any thoughts of a close encounter soon evaporated as Melrose spun the ball from the off, and from the moment Kirsty Cook powered over in the first few minutes the writing was on the wall for the visitors. The homesters continued in similar vein throughout the half as the literally ran the Quines off the park with waves off handling movements. There were periods of resistance from Aberdeen, mainly from their forwards resulting in them grabbing a try just before half time, which was the first conceded by Melrose this season. With a 50 points lead at the break it was almost inevitable that the intensity would drop although another five sparkling tries were posted before the end. All in all a highly satisfying result with an excellent team display of support running and handling. In match where all played their part it was Hannah Rorrison who just edged “Player of the Match”
Melrose scorers were Karen McIlroy (2), Tara Elms (2), Tania Pender (2), Kirsty Stewart (2), Kirsty Cook (2), Gillian Duncan, Lynne Clark and Ailie Gibson. Stewart converted six.
