Crichton Cup - Melrose Junior 7s 2007, Melrose Rugby Football Club, Scotland

For what must be a first, Melrose enjoyed superb weather for their 3 sevens tournaments - The Melrose Sevens, the Drummond Cup and The Crichton Cup. The Crichton Cup is a tournament held for youngsters living in the area and surrounding villages or who are registered to play at the club. Ranging from 5 to 17yrs the competition has now been an established part of the Melrose rugby callander for over 60 years. It is a fairly safe bet that if you ask most Scottish internationalists from Melrose they will be able to produce a "Crichtons" medal from their memorabilia box.
This years tournament provided some excellent rugby with the trophies being spread around fairly evenly. A total of over 300 youngsters took part suggesting that although the top end of Borders rugby may be going through a tough time just now, the foundations appear fairly sound.
